Job description

If stability and work-life balance are your priorities, this role could be an excellent fit for you!

I am partnering with a specialist MEP contractor to recruit a Temporary Works Designer for the delivery of temporary mechanical and electrical works on two major projects, valued at £20 billion and £40 billion.

This position offers an exceptional opportunity for long-term job security over the next 15 years, along with the flexibility of hybrid working.

As a Temporary Works Designer, your responsibilities will include:
  • Develop Temporary Works designs in line with BS 5975: 2019, ensuring practicality and compliance with project requirements.
  • Approve and verify designs to ensure adherence to safety and regulatory standards before implementation.
  • Conduct stress calculations, structural analysis, and load assessments to guarantee designs withstand all expected loads safely.
  • Ensure designs align with CDM Regulations 2015 and other relevant legislative standards.
  • Collaborate with the project team to create precise design briefs based on on-site conditions.
  • Oversee independent design checks by qualified personnel to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Implement inspection and test plans, including quality control procedures, to confirm adherence to certified design standards.
  • Ensure thorough checks post-completion of Temporary Works, verify no adverse effects on Permanent Works, and secure required certifications.
  • Liaise closely with the Temporary Works Designated Individual (TWDI) and project leads to deliver effective engineering solutions.

To be successful in this position, you will:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related field).
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with a recognised institution (e.g., ICE, IStructE).
  • Temporary Works Design certification (e.g., CITB or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of BS 5975: 2019 and Temporary Works design principles.
  • Skilled in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD.Pro, and Tekla.
Your contribution will be recognised, valued, and rewarded. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the wider business, helping with quality and process improvements (if that’s your area of interest).

What's on offer:
A salary between £65,000 and £80,000 per annum (negotiable), with a car allowance of £5,780 per annum, 5-day week or 9-day fortnight, travel / accommodation reimbursed through expenses, pension, flexible/hybrid working and 25 days of holiday.
