MEP Design Manager
Salary circa £90k + package
One of my main clients in the infrastructure arena have secured several new contracts in in the transport and utilities markets. Their design team already contains highly intelligent and talented engineers working on some very notable projects. You would help strengthen this business by supervising the design and engineering activity (Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health, Fire and Telecommunications) on a medium to larger size projects. Electrically this will include projects up to 33kV voltage level. The role will involve the planning and direction of design and engineering assignments on the project. Technical responsibilities include interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments.

The MEP Design Manager will:
- Supervise the design and engineering activities Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health, Fire and Telecommunications disciplines) on a project performed by group of engineers including other Design Managers, discipline lead engineers, specialists, BIM coordinators and CAD draughtsmen.
- Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews engineering and design work within engineering and design function on a project or assignment in a sector business unit.
- Management of all associated design registers, meeting minutes, drawing registers etc.as appropriate in line with our client and project requirements. Ensure all formal communication is undertaken and managed (RFI’s, TQ’s, EWN’s, MAR’s etc.)
- Ensure design risk assessments are compliant with the installation parameters.
- Prepares Design Management Plan and provides input to Project Engineering Execution Plans as part of Project Execution Plan.
- Maintains contacts with Client representatives as required, with Suppliers, Construction Managers, and other Consultants/Contractors as part of interface management to ensure the coordination of the work within the project or assignment and compliance with our client and the end client requirements.
- Coordinates with Client representatives as delegated to obtain their approval on phases of work.
- Ensures that lead discipline design engineers are following our client’s Engineering and Design Management and Assurance Procedures and Quality Management System Procedures.
- Working with the Commercial Discipline to track design change and variances.
- Working with the planning department to plan design, installation, and T&C works. Provision of accurate assessment on forecast works to complete and provide suitable readjustments to ensure project programme is maintained.
- Supports the Head of Electrical Engineering in annual performance reviews in accordance with approved procedures.
- Applies the technical skills required to manage production of Engineering and Design deliverables for the project, including integration with other functions, on multiple projects.
- Knowledge of engineering and design work processes and associated compliance
- Proficiency in Low and High Voltage (up to 33kV) power distribution system design and engineering and the associated HVAC support in Power, Utilities, Infrastructure Sectors.
- Knowledge of application and coordination of 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools such as BIM on a project.
- Exposure to BIM and design modelling standards.
- Substantial experience in a ‘Design Manager role’ within Power, Utilities, Infrastructure Design and Engineering projects.
- A recognized degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
