Mechanical Project Engineer - Pier VI - Gatwick Airport

£60k - £75k depending on experience.

We are working with the self-delivery wing of a leading principal contractor who have been awarded a large-scale pier extension at Gatwick Airport (Pier VI). They need an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join on a permanent basis, starting in head office (Central London) before moving down to the offices on site at Gatwick to oversee the build, commissioning, and handover phases in early 2026.

Mechanical Project Engineer responsibilities will include:


  • Production and agreement of logic linked programmes, preconstruction, construction and commissioning.
  • Production and agreement of weekly dependency schedule production to progress works in line with programme.
  • Management, monitoring and recording of weekly look ahead plan for resource and progress.
  • Attendance of weekly programme coordination / look ahead meeting with detailed understanding of dependencies, problems posed and available resolutions.
  • Management and sequencing of Sub-subcontractors in line with programme
Mechanical Project Engineer requirements.


  • Assist with the production and agreement of project health & safety plans.
  • Monitoring of installation works to ensure compliance with Mace processes.
  • Monitoring of installation works to ensure compliance with project strategies / plans.
  • Management of procurement of Sub-subcontractor packages in line with business and project strategies / plans.
  • Management of subcontractor’s scope via a profit and loss reporting including attendance in project level package commercial reviews.
  • Management of subcontractor’s package risk register.
  • Production of detailed site instruction via descriptions, sketches, site photos for incorporation by the commercial team.
  • Production of detailed BWIC requests via descriptions, sketches, site photos for incorporation by the commercial team.
  • Monitoring and auditing of installation works to ensure compliance with project strategies.
  • MEP requirements, i.e. builds work holes, riser opening dimensions.
  • Production and agreement of the commissioning strategy, management of close out items for package.
  • Management and close out of comissionability reports.
  • Management of Sub-subcontractor packages throughout the commissioning until single system completion.
  • Production of detailed engineering reviews at preconstruction ensuring the design is aligned throughout the drawings, specifications, schedules for package.
  • Production and agreement of design review and management of close out items for package.
  • Management of design for sub-sub-contract packages in compliance with the Employers Requirements, project strategies, regulations and best practice. Including production of technical submissions, and construction drawings.
