You the successful CDM/Principal Designer will ideally come from a consultancy background. The work is diverse, you will lead new build schemes, refurbishment, high rise residential, local government and both tier 1 and 2 contractors. The teams core focus is commercial, education, healthcare, residential and MOD.
The opportunity is to directly work with the Head of Health & Safety providing a comprehensive range of CDM and Principal Design services.
The Health and Safety division plays an integral role in the practice’s success. The close-knit friendly team, work in collaboration with the other departments providing H&S advice. This role is a great opportunity for an ambitious H&S professional who is looking for a structured career growth.

Responsibilities
- Complying with the responsibilities of the principal designer under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015).
- Informing and assisting clients in discharging their duties at each stage of the process under CDM 2015.
- Visiting sites and carrying out an initial appraisal to establish existing hazards and site restrictions.
- Attendance at design team meetings, workshops, and project progress meetings.
- Setting up the design risk register and carrying out CDM design reviews / workshops.
- Assist designers to design out risk and maintain design risk register.
- Preparation of RIBA Stage CDM / Principal Designer reports.
- Advising and assisting clients in the appointment of designers and contractors
- Preparation and issue of the Pre Construction Information.
- Submission of the F10 Notification to the HSE and review of Construction Phase Plans prior to works starting on site.
- Carrying out site inspections during the construction phase to monitor compliance.
- Undertaking site H&S inspections and report writing.
- Assist with the writing of risk assessments and safe systems of work for clients.
CDM/Principal Designer
- Construction related degree (desirable)
- 2/3 years in consultancy similar role CDM/Principal Designer
- NEBOSH in Construction
- Membership to IOSH, APS, IIRSM or similar professional body
- Strong technical knowledge
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work individually and collaboratively
- Full UK driver’s licence
