Senior Site Engineer

Job Title: Senior Engineer – Freelance (Outside IR35)

Location: Portsmouth, UK

Duration: 6-12 Months

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join a dynamic team in Portsmouth on a freelance basis for a 6-12 month contract. This role is outside IR35 and offers the opportunity to work on major heavy civils projects involving bulk earthworks and drainage systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee engineering activities related to bulk earthworks and drainage.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
• Manage site operations, including planning, coordination, and resource allocation.
• Conduct site surveys, supervise setting out, and provide technical guidance to the team.
• Liaise with project managers, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery.
• Prepare and review technical documentation, including reports, risk assessments, and method statements.
• Monitor project progress, ensuring timelines and budgets are met without compromising quality.
• Troubleshoot on-site challenges and implement effective solutions.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in heavy civils, particularly in bulk earthworks and drainage.
• Strong background in site management, setting out, and engineering practices.
• Proficiency in using engineering software such as AutoCAD and other related tools.
• Excellent understanding of civil engineering design principles and construction processes.
• Proven ability to lead and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of current health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• CSCS card and SMSTS certification (preferred).
• Relevant professional memberships or accreditations (desirable).
