Job description

Role: QHSE Advisor
Location:  North Hampshire/South Berkshire border.
 
This QSHE role is to provide management, guidance and expertise in all QHSE matters for the Client and their business across four UK sites.  The role will be required to develop and ensure business-wide standardisation (where possible) of a QHSE compliance strategy.  Monitor, review and analyse QHSE performance and identify initiatives to ensure performance improvement and implement best practices.  Establish a collaborative ‘working partnership’ with Client and site-based customers to help improve their QHSE knowledge and development of a learning organisation.
As a QSHE Advisor, your principal roles and responsibilities will include:
  • Driving forward and implementing the QHSE strategy in accordance with ethical guidelines and Client corporate policies.
  • Develop, implement, manage and review account-specific QHSE business plans and objectives as set by the Client.
  • Effective business communication, face-to-face and written, with clear guidance and professionalism in all circumstances.
  • Ensure compliance with all business-wide policies.
  • Simplify and standardise (where possible) all systems and processes.
  • Lead on the provision, guidance and practical expertise on all QHSE topics, ensuring there is appropriate day-to-day support for the Client, site-based customers and the client's Facilities Management team.
  • Risk Management, accountable for coordinating all activities and maintaining Risk Register, Risk Assessment activities, incident and hazard reporting.
  • Review and further develop safe systems of work to include electrical safety.
  • Implement and develop an environmental improvement action plan
  • Develop and lead QHSE meetings for each site, at least quarterly. This will require setting the Agenda, providing quality content, and documentation and provision of minutes.
  • Provide some training and issue monthly toolbox talks specific to Client business activities.
  • Provide timely/accurate management information and reports for use by the Client at Board of Director meetings. The QHSE Manager is to be available to attend meetings as required by the Client.
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe and sustainable environment adhering to EHS and legislative guidelines
  • Build collaborative working relationships with other employees across the client’s UK locations to ensure all processes and services are aligned.
  • Maintain regular contact with the UK Customer Business Manager, consult on key decisions and advise of incidents, escalation and complaints.
  • Develop a network of contacts with the Central QHSE team for peer-to-peer relationships.
Local Client management:
  • Responsible for an optimum Client satisfaction and building lasting and meaningful relationship.
  • Being visible and/or accessible for the local customers.
  • Periodic Client reviews and other meetings to mitigate escalations, negotiate scope, etc.
  • Prepare and present Client management reports.
 
Compliance
  • Responsible for compliance with legislation relevant to Client business activities.
  • Raise awareness of all statutory and compliance requirements including timely updates of any changes that apply to Client business activities.
  • Ensure that Health Safety, Security and Environment processes and policies are adhered to.
  • Management and maintenance of all key compliance documents.
Training, Qualifications and Experience:
  • A good general education, with formal management qualifications in Health & Safety management and Environmental management. Practical application of auditing and membership of the IIRSM or IOSH at Diploma level, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in similar roles, with experience of Client-facing roles and relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Conversant with (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 45001, (or similar regional alternatives).
  • Must be able to demonstrate a career showing continuous personal development in the related field of QHSE.
  • A practical and demonstrable knowledge of liaising with enforcement agencies/insurers.
  • Practical experience must include:
  • Risk Management strategy development and implementation.
  • Best Value analysis of QHSE resource support provision.
  • Monitoring and Analysis of management system performance.
  • Development and implementation of policy and process.
  • Environmental risk and ‘resource’ evaluation and management.
  • Positively articulate QHSE through suitable presentation media.
  • Accident/Hazard investigation & analysis to drive improvements.
  • Development and delivery of QHSE training.
  • Engaging and meaningful management of meetings.
 
Highly Desirable:
  • Formal qualification in environmental management system and auditing or Safety management system auditing.
  • Demonstrate good presentation skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Understanding of high level of customer service
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Fully PC Literate – Microsoft Office Suite, Sharepoint
  • Engineering, Technical or Facilities Management qualification or experience an advantage

  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to interface at all levels throughout an organisation, both face-to-face and remotely
  • Excellent organizational and communication, verbal and written, skills
  • Good inter-personal skills in dealing with customers, colleagues and suppliers
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.
You must be in a position to travel across the UK (Edinburgh, Telford, Winnersh and Fleet essentially) as required with occasional overnight stays. An option to have some ad hoc days working from home, by agreement.
