Job Summary
The role is accountable for managing the Accounts Payable (AP) team, ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities, and resolving issues escalated by the Assistant Managers.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Responsibilities
- Regularly review aged creditor reports.
- Address payment run issues escalated by the Assistant Manager.
- Resolve urgent or escalated queries.
- Oversee supplier reconciliations as required.
- Approve urgent payments outside of the normal process.
- Ensure no dummy invoices or credits are posted—valid invoices must back all transactions.
- Review and approve the CIS return, ensuring figures match Coda entries.
- Manage the month-end process, prioritizing high-value invoices and ensuring control accounts reconcile to the trial balance (TB).
- Assist in preparing and reviewing information for Duty to Report, identifying and remediating process issues proactively.
- Train new team members and ensure consistent knowledge sharing.
- Address team issues escalated by the Assistant AP Manager.
- Enhance AP's role as a valued finance partner both internally and externally.
- Sign off on bank payments.
Line Management Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor the AP team.
- Conduct and sign off on team appraisals.
- Hold monthly one-to-one meetings to track objectives and progress.
- Foster teamwork and encourage sharing lessons learned across the AP function.
- Resolve escalated issues promptly and effectively.
Technical Competencies
Essential
- Strong knowledge of professional accounting standards and transactional accounting (AP processes).
- Familiarity with IT systems and cost accounting.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
- Team management skills, balancing business and staff needs.
- Conscientious, articulate, and professional demeanor.
- At least 3 years of experience in a finance department.
- Ability to work autonomously and prioritize team workload effectively.
Desirable
- CIS experience.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion.
